2017 Kia Sportage release date, price, specs – The current model of the Sportage has been released back in 2010 and it happens to be the car which managed to get Kia right up there with the biggest manufacturers in the World. However, because its design is getting dated, a new model has been scheduled to be released this September at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The new Kia Sportage 2017 is going to be an all new car which will actually use a new platform, similar to that of the new Tucson. Its price will be adjusted, the interior will change for the better while the exterior will be updated in order to meet Kia’s current design scheme.
2017 Kia Sportage release date and price
While there is not that much information available about the new 2017 Kia Sportage, a few cars has been spied testing with heavy camouflage and the end result might be more impressive than we first thought. The car will remain similar in size to the current model but it will be slightly wider and taller which should also increase the room available for its passengers and it should also give it more luggage space. However, these new dimensions could make it unbalanced, so it is very possible that Kia will work on its running gear in order to make it more compliant as well as safer than before. The car will not be available for sale until the mid of 2016 and when it will hit the market, it will cost between $22,000 and $25,000 for the base model, depending on the market of choice.
New Kia Sportage 2017 specs
Engine wise, there is going to be an all new engine as well as a few upgraded ones which will likely use less fuel than before. The new base engine in Europe on the new Kia Sportage 2017 is going to be a tiny 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol engine with 132 horsepower which is quite impressive. Further up the range, the 1.7 liter diesel engine with 131 horsepower is expected to be the best selling powertrain outside the US. A naturally aspirated 1.6 liter engine as well as a turbocharged version of the same engine is also going to be available in certain markets. In the US though, the 2017 Kia Sportage will likely come as standard with a new 1.6 liter turbocharged inline 4 with 180 horsepower while the top of the range model will continue to use the same 2.0 liter turbocharged inline 4 with 260 horsepower. Most engines will come as standard with a 6 speed manual while a 7 speed dual-clutch automatic is going to be available on the diesel engine as well as on the top of the range model on the US market.
2017 Kia Sportage redesign
Just as we mentioned before, exterior of the new Kia Sportage 2017 will also be updated so it will look more in line with Kia’s current design scheme. From the camouflaged cars, we can clearly see that the grille is now slimmer and it has been moved down while the fog-lights are now on the same level with it. There also seems to be a new hood as well as new wrap-around headlights with HID lights and separate low and high beams. The back of the car on the other hand looks to be slightly longer than on the current model and more aggressive and on top of that, the tail lights received all new graphics for their LEDs.
Unfortunately, the inside of the 2017 Kia Sportage is mostly unknown at this point but from a few pictures taken on a prototype, it seems that the entire interior is new. The steering wheel is new and sportier than before while the center console seems to be made out of a softer material. On top of that, the air vents have been redesigned in order to be better integrated into the dashboard.
