2016 Nissan Leaf release date, price, range, specs

2016 Nissan Leaf release date, price, range, specs – The current Leaf is one of the best selling electric cars on the US market and it actually sold so far more than 200,000 units. This means that Nissan managed to sell more Leaf cars than all the other under $45,000 electric cars combined, thus making it very successful. However, this model has been around for some time and it started to lose ground against the longer range cars such as the upcoming Bolt or even the Tesla Model S which is a lot more expensive but it also offers a much higher range. The new Nissan Leaf 2016 is expected to solve most of the problems of the current model. This means it will offer a much higher range, a similar price as well as a better to look exterior.

It is unclear yet what platform the new Nissan Leaf 2016 is going to use but it seems Nissan will actually upgrade the current one. This means the car will continue to offer quite a bit of space for its passengers and it will still be a hatchback. The release date, while unknown at this point, might come in the next 6 to 12 months which is closer than we first thought. The price will be kept around the $35,000 which is the current sweet-spot for electric cars.

2016 Nissan Leaf design

The design of the 2016 Nissan Leaf is going to be the most striking feature about the new car. It will be more aggressive and just like many people said, it will look more conventional than before. Early renders suggest a V-shaped grille similar to the one on the Maxima. This will supposedly cool the electric motor and it should also cool the radiator that will cool the batteries, equipment which was not needed before. The car should also be slightly longer as well as wider than before which will increase the available space for passengers and luggage. However, the front trunk will now be closed and it will not be accessible by its passengers.

Interior

Inside the cabin we should see a similar approach to the current model. This means that Nissan will likely go for environmentally friendly materials such as vinyl and even soft touch plastics or Alcantara leather. These will make the car look good, feel great and it will be more sustainable than the conventional cars with their real leather upholstery. The standard 2016 will come with most equipment available as standard. Things such as the satellite navigation unit, the surround audio system and even the electric seats will be offered on the base version. The new Nissan Leaf 2016 will also use an electric air conditioning system which should be usable when the car is turned off, a huge plus over the conventional petrol powered cars.

New Nissan Leaf 2016 range, specs

Engine wise, the new Nissan Leaf 2016 will make use of a new electric motor and set of batteries. While the power has not been made available just yet, the engine should provide around 150 horsepower and up to 300 lb-ft of torque. It will be combined to a one speed transmission so the performance will be on par with the other hatchbacks in its class. However, this time the 2016 Nissan Leaf is going to receive a water-cooled battery pack which will provide a lot more than the current 24 kWh capacity. This means that it will be one of the few cars which will hit over 200 miles of all electric range. In fact, the 2016 Nissan Leaf is expected to get up to 240 miles of all electric range and this time it will also be compatible with a lot of fast-charge systems on the market which will give it up to 60% battery charge in less than 20 minutes which is very impressive considering the price it will be sold at.
