2016 Nissan Frontier diesel, release date, price -The Nissan Frontier has been available on the US market for nearly two decades now while the current generation has been around since 2004 without any real changes made to it, meaning it is the oldest truck currently for sale in the US. However, this is going to change quite soon because the new Nissan Frontier 2016 is going to be an all new truck. While at first these were only rumors, after the International model of the Navara has been released last year, it became quite obvious that it will also be available in the US quite soon. While Nissan hasn’t said anything about the official release date, it seems that the truck will most likely hit the US shores some time at the end of 2015 when it will be launched alongside a few other models from Nissan.
2016 Nissan Frontier changes
The design is changed a lot and while the US version of the 2016 Nissan Frontier has not been officially released, the International version does spoil a lot of its design. The front end will be more aerodynamic with a slightly smaller grille as well as new angular headlights. On top of that, both the departure and approach angles are going to be better due to the better design of its bumpers. The cabin is all new as well featuring either two full doors with two smaller scissor doors or four full doors, depending on the choice of its buyer. The bed on the other hand will be available in only two length choices which does put it behind the Tacoma or its International competitor, the Tundra.
Inside the cabin of the new 2016 Frontier there is going to be an all-new dashboard as well as a new design in general. The dashboard will likely be shared with that of the Navara but it will come with more equipment as standard such as electric mirrors and windows as well as a climate control system. The satellite navigation unit, or even the rear view camera, are only going to be available as optional extras.
2016 Nissan Frontier specs
In terms of engines, the new 2016 Nissan Frontier is going to be one of the more interesting choices on the market and that’s because it will come not with one but two different diesel engines as well as a petrol powered offering. The base model will make use of a naturally aspirated 2.5 liter inline 4 which could provide up to 180 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, a decent amount from a naturally aspirated engine. The base diesel is likely going to be the 2.5 liter turbocharged inline 4 which could provide up to 160 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque while the optional 2.3 liter twin-turbo inline 4 could actually provide as much as 190 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque which is mighty impressive considering it will likely get well over 30 MPG on average. Both the diesel models will use a new 7 speed automatic coupled to the rear wheels as standard while an all wheel drive system will be available as an option. The 2.5 liter engine on the other hand will likely only be available with the rear wheel drive system and only with a 6 speed manual gearbox.
New Nissan Frontier 2016 price
Unlike the previous version, the new Nissan Frontier 2016 is going to use a development of the old platform which is going to be both lighter as well as more rigid. However, it will be heavier than the European version because Nissan is going to add more safety struts in the back of the truck and that’s because it scored quite low in the Euro NCAP crash test. The 2016 Nissan Frontier price has not been released for now but it seems it will likely cost around $18,000 for a base model.
