2016 GMC Sierra price, changes, specs – Just as we all know, usually GMC models are very similar to their Chevrolet counterparts but they offer something extra for not much as extra. However, the Sierra is a bit more different because it is nearly $2,000 cheaper than its twin, the Silverado and it does make us wonder because the GMC model is actually just as good, if not better, as its twin.
2016 GMC Sierra release date and price
Not too long ago a Silverado was spotted testing with its camouflage on and nearly four weeks ago a new truck was spied. This time was the 2016 GMC Sierra with its front fascia completely covered in order to keep its details secret. However, from those pictures there are some crucial details divulged which may help us predicting how the next model will look. The release date has not been set but it is very likely that it will be available on the market starting with the end of 2015, getting the same launch date as its twin. The price will not change either so expect the same base of around $27,000 while a fully equipped V8 model will likely fetch well over $60,000, quite a bit more than the Silverado.
2016 GMC Sierra changes
Let’s start this small preview of the 2016 GMC Sierra with the design of the exterior because this is the most likely to change. Even though the front of the prototype was camouflaged, it was quite clear that the car will get an all-new grille. At this point we don’t know if it will be the new Denali grille or the one on the base model but it does look a bit more refined than before. On top of that the headlights will receive LED daytime running lights in their top part and the Xenon beams are going to be moved slightly further in to provide a more aggressive look. The fog-lamps also look to be lit by LEDs. In the back on the other hand the new Sierra looks very similar to the older model with no real differences to it. We are sure though that the production model is likely going to receive a new tail gate.
Inside the cabin there are not going to be that many changes, especially considering that the truck was only released back in 2014. We might see an improvement on the materials used on the dashboard so they will be more pleasant to the touch. The great infotainment system, also found on the previous model, will now see an update so it should offer support for Apple’s Car Play as well as for the Google’s version as standard.
New GMC Sierra 2016 specs
Under the hood of the new GMC Sierra 2016 the same three engines are going to be found once again. The base model with its 4.3 liter naturally aspirated V6, good for 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. Further up the range a 5.3 liter V8 will also be available with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque while the top of the range model as well as the Denali will get the 6.2 liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to tow up to 9,000 in complete safety. The change will come with the gearbox. This time the great 8 speed automatic found on the top of the range V8 is going to be carried over to the two smaller engines, meaning that it should be smoother as well as more relaxing to drive than before.
This comes like a bit of a surprise because at first many thought that the 2016 GMC Sierra was going to be the first truck to receive GM’s all-new 10 speed automatic. However, it seems that this new transmission will only be available starting with the 2017 model.
