2016 Dodge Journey changes, redesign, specs – The Dodge Journey is a great family crossover SUV which offers good comfort to its passengers, enough room for five or seven people, depending on the model of choice as well as great looks and driving characteristics. However, the car has been currently in production for nearly seven years so it lost a lot of ground when compared to the other competitors in its class. In order to fix that a new model is going to roll out in the near future with the new Dodge Journey 2016, an all-new car which will use a new platform as well as new engines. The platform will be the same Compact Wide-US as the one on the new Chrysler 200 and it should allow the people from Dodge to build an incredibly good car.

Despite the new platform, the Journey will remain a small to midsize crossover SUV, so it will be taller than the average sedan. Also, unlike the previous model which was quite heavy, the new car is expected to shed at least 100 pounds of weight which could help it greatly with its fuel consumption and driving characteristics.

Its running gear is likely going to share a lot of parts with the 200, so the base model should be front wheel drive while options will get the buyer all wheel drive with electronic limited slip differentials which will help it greatly during off-road use. However, do not expect any trail-going performance from the car as it will be only one or two inches higher than the 200 sedan and it will be tuned for on-road use.

The engines in the new Dodge Journey 2016 are also likely going to receive a very good upgrade from the previous version. Firstly, the old 2.4 liter engine is going to be upgraded to a Pentastar inline 4 with the same displacement. This should provide around 184 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque which is a nice boost in power considering the fuel consumption drop. The top end engine is going to be a 3.6 liter V6 which will now provide up to 305 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both of them will be mated to a new 9-speed automatic and both of them will be available with either front wheel drive or all wheel drive. Some rumors also suggested that the Journey is going to get a smaller 1.8 liter turbocharged inline 4 from Alfa Romeo with around 210 horsepower which will provide the economy option everyone was expecting. However, Chrysler hasn’t said anything officially about it just yet.

Design wise, the new 2016 Journey is likely going to borrow heavily from the newest cars Dodge has, the Charger as well as the upcoming Challenger. The front end is going to be more aggressive than before with slightly slimmer headlights with LED and Xenon included as standard while the grille might just be a complete carry over from the Charger which would make it look amazing. In the back the tailgate could see an improvement into a two-piece unit while the massive tail lights are going to be replaced with something better looking. The wheel’s designs are also going to be all new and it should be available in more color options than before.

The base interior trim level is going to be adequate with an LCD screen for the infotainment system, rear view camera, a premium audio system as well as satellite radio and electric mirrors, windows and front seats.
