2016 Chevy Cruze diesel, price, specs, mpg – The Cruze is a great compact family car which has been around since 2008 and it managed to make a name for itself both in the US as well as in Europe as a very good looking alternative to the Golf or even the Astra, in Europe. However, being on the market for nearly seven years, it is now the time for an all-new model. This has been under development for more than a year now and the car was actually launched in China more than half a year ago, without any signs of it coming to the US or even in Europe. However, not too long ago the car has been spied without any camouflage and it seems that the US version of the new Chevy Cruze 2016 is actually quite a bit more different than the Chinese model. Its key competitors should be Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra, and Volkswagen Jetta.
2016 Chevy Cruze price
Just like the new Astra, the new 2016 Chevy Cruze will use the D2XX platform which is a modular platform developed specifically for compact to medium size cars. Thanks to it the weight should go down by at least 100 pounds, allowing it to be both more fuel efficient as well as better to drive. Even though the car is nearly ready to go into production, it seems that it will not hit the US market for at least a few more months while in Europe it will come some time in the early 2016. Its price will be similar to that of the current model, meaning that the base model will cost around $17,000 while the top end cars will fetch up to $30,000 with all the extras ticked in which is above the average but still well under control.
New Chevy Cruze 2016 diesel specs
Under the hood of the new 2016 Chevy Cruze we are going to see all new engines which is great news for everyone looking for a compact car. While the Chinese model uses naturally aspirated engines, it seems that the US model will get as standard a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline 4 which will provide 153 horsepower and up to 177 lb-ft of torque. This will then be mated to a six speed manual transmission as standard while 6-speed automatic transmission will be an option. This powertrain should be good for up to 40 MPG on the highway and more than 30 MPG in the city which is very good. In future period there will be optional 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine from the European Astra. This particular model could provide up to 140 horsepower and more than 210 lb-ft of torque, all while offering up to 50 MPG on the highway and more than 35 MPG in the city, a class leading number and one of the very few diesels in its class. A sportier model is also possible for the future with a more powerful turbocharged petrol engine.
2016 Chevy Cruze redesign
The exterior of the car is something special for sure. While the current generation is has a boxy design, the 2016 Chevy Cruze is going to be a lot more impressive. The front end will be almost identical to the Volt but from the side or the back it will be all new. The front end will be rounder as well as more aggressive with sharper looking headlights, a new grille and air intake in the bumper which completes the look. The back will get LED tail lights as standard as well as a dual exhaust system for the petrol engine which makes it look rather nice.
Inside the cabin everything is going to be new from the dashboard all the way to the seats or its steering wheel. The 2016 Chevy Cruze will also provide better materials such as premium cloth and leather as well as aluminum on some interior elements. The steering wheel will be multifunctional even on the base model while the infotainment system will be the same all new unit that is also installed on the Camaro.
