2016 BMW X3 specs, changes, MSRP price – The X3 is currently at its second generation and it seems that a new one is under development for quite some time now. However, the new X3 is not going to be the all new car everyone was expecting but rather an improved version of the current generation. This is also going to be the last year when the current model is going to be sold and starting with the mid of 2016 the car will actually be completely replaced with an all new car which is going to use a new platform. Until then though, the new BMW X3 2016 is going to look sharper, it will be even better to drive and a sport edition might finally arrive in the US as well as in Europe.
2016 BMW X3 price changes
Unfortunately, it will still be quite heavy for its size, not that great to drive despite the fact it uses a rear wheel drive platform and it will be very expensive for its size. In fact, BMW announced not too long ago that they are going to bump the price for the new X3 by around $300 for the base model and more than $1,000 for the top tier models. Unfortunately, they are not going to add any new equipment to the car which is a bit of a shame but it is understandable, especially since the upcoming X3 will be priced nearly 10% higher than the current generation and it will directly compete with the Macan.
New BMW X3 2016 specs
Engine wise, the new BMW X3 2016 will use the same engines that are available on the current model. This means the base model will get a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline 4 that delivers at 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The US market will only get one diesel version, the xDrive28d while Europe will get three additional diesel offerings. Diesel powerplant produces 180 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, impressive for such a small engine. Take into account that the cheapest version has a price just under $40,000 and it is only available with rear wheel drive. The top end model gets the 3.0 liter twin-turbo inline 6 with 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. All of these will come with an 8 speed automatic and most of them are available with all wheel drive.
Just as we mentioned before, a hot version of the X3 might find its way on the US market. This could use the same engine as the 35i but with new turbochargers, so it could provide up to 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, enough to be faster than some of its competitors like the GLA 45 AMG.
2016 BMW X3 redesign
The exterior of the 2016 BMW X3 will not remain unchanged either so the car should receive all the newest technologies BMW has. This means that it might be one of the first cars to receive the great laser headlights which have been showcased earlier this year. On top of that, the M Division model would get unique rims, a new body-kit with more aggressive lines as well as an active dual exhaust system which would put it in the same class with the Macan Turbo and all the other sport crossovers out there. The only drawback would be the massive price spike, meaning it could reach up to $60,000 or even more than that.
Inside the cabin, the new X3 will remain very similar to the current generation. In fact, the only changes BMW has planned for the 2016 BMW X3 include the Harman Kardon system which is now going to be offered as standard on the 6-cylinder models as well as the updated iDrive system which will be able to send text messages, check e-mails as well as initiate a call, all through the Bluetooth or USB connection and the driver’s phone
