2016 Subaru Forester changes, mpg, specs – The Forester is a great crossover which has been around for ages. It is very ease to drive and it offers quite the punch when you need it to. However, despite that, it is fuel efficient as well as roomy enough to get five passengers on-board without any problems. The current model of the car has been released back in 2013 and it is now going to receive a mid-cycle update with the next generation Forester. This update will give the car new equipment inside the cabin, slightly more efficient engines as well as a design change. Unfortunately, this is not going to be the redesign everyone was waiting for. The platform change is going to happen some time in the late 2016 or early 2017 while the 2016 model will be out by the end of 2015. The biggest change for this update is going to be the price of the car which has already been announced by Subaru and it seems to be a lot better than before. In fact, the new Subaru Forester 2016 can now be had for only $23,000 which is very good for its class while a price for Touring trim level goes over $34,000 which is still better than before and even better than many other cars in its class.
2016 Subaru Forester specs
Under the hood of the 2016 Subaru Forester there is going to be quite a bit of work done to its engines. While the base model will have to get along with the 2.5 liter naturally aspirated flat-four which is great for fuel efficiency but it can only offer 170 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque, the premium versions will also get the 2.0 liter flat-four which is turbocharged so it can provide 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque which is more than adequate for a car this size. Both engines are available as standard with a 6 speed manual gearbox which in our opinion is the one to have, or an optional CVT gearbox which is quite relaxing to drive but it doesn’t get near the feedback of the manual offering. The best part about it though is that the 2016 Subaru Forester is only available with the great Subaru all wheel drive system.
Unfortunately, the 2.0 liter flat-four diesel is still going to be missing from the US market which is a bit of a shame because it was fuel efficient as well as powerful enough for the car. A hybrid has also been ruled out which means that the Forester will have to do with the two base engines which are good but not great. When it comes to fuel efficiency the 2016 Subaru Forester 2.5l with manual gearbox is rated at 25 mpg combined (22/29 city/hwy) while CVT transmission raise those numbers up to 27 mpg combined (24/32 city/hwy) and 28 mpg combined (23/28 city/hwy) for 2.0XT models.
New Subaru Forester 2016 changes
The design of the new Subaru Forester 2016 is not going to remain unchanged either. The front and rear of the car will be all new. The massive headlights are going to be changed with slightly longer and slimmer ones more similar to that of the new Impreza while in the back the car will come with a standard spoiler as well as new LED tail lights. The wheels are also expected to be all new and there should be more color options for the buyers to choose from. A sport version of the Forester has also been rumored to hit the US shores but Subaru hasn’t said anything about it. However, if it will come out, it seems that it will be quite a bit more aggressive and it will feature a unique design for the front end.
Inside the cabin most things are going to remain unchanged from the current generation of the car. It will likely receive a bigger 7 inch screen for the base model or an 8 inch screen for the premium edition while the 2016 Subaru Forester Premium should now come as standard with leather upholstery.
