2016 Dodge Dakota release date, price, specs – The Dakota was at one time one of the most successful compact pick-up trucks on the US market because it offered a good package at a very good price. However, the truck has been discontinued back in 2011 when Chrysler was having problems and since then the model was forgotten. However, back in 2014 some rumors suggested that a new model was coming up with the new Dodge Dakota 2016 and despite the fact this only seemed like a rumor and not much else, since then, both Dodge and Fiat started a co-development project with Mitsubishi.
2016 Dodge Dakota release date and price
It seems that the upcoming 2016 Dodge Dakota is going to share a lot of its components with the new L200 in terms of running gear and chassis. The body will likely be made by Fiat which is also very possible going to release a compact truck on the European market which will be pretty much identical with the US model. The release date should be some time in the mid of 2016 for the concept car while the production model will not be ready by the end of that year. The price is very likely going to be well under $20,000 while the European version will cost around the equivalent of $21,000 which would still put it in the top as one of the cheapest trucks on the market.
New Dodge Dakota 2016 redesign changes
Just as we said, the design of the new Dodge Dakota 2016 will mostly be influenced by that of the European Fiat truck. Both the cabin as well as the rear of the truck will remain unchanged but the front end will be all new. It seems that the Dakota is very likely going to look like a downsized version of the RAM 1500. The grille will be similar to that of the Ram Rebel and it will not feature the usual model. This will make the Dakota look quite good and it should be a great head-start for it.
Inside the cabin the 2016 Dodge Dakota will also carry over the design of the European version in order to save as much money as possible. The dashboard as well as most of the equipment will be similar but the US version of the car is also possibly going to be available with an industrial edition which will include dirt resistant upholstery, bigger than usual knobs and buttons to allow easy glove use as well as receiver that will allow for easy communication.
2016 Dodge Dakota specs
Now, let’s move in the engine compartment because this is where the 2016 Dakota pickup truck has a chance to shine. Currently, in its class there are a few trucks such as the Colorado which offer pretty much all you could think off. However, the Dakota is going to be the only turbocharged compact truck, for the base model at least, and it is going to be offered with a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 which could provide up to 240 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, a lot more than the average of its class.
On top of that, a diesel is also going to find its way to the new Dodge Dakota 2016. However, at this point in time it is unclear if it will use a European 2.0 liter turbocharged diesel with up to 200 horsepower or it will get a VM Motori or Cummins supplied inline 4. In any case though, the transmission is most likely going to be a 6-speed manual as standard while options will include either a 6- or 8-speed automatic. Rear wheel drive is going to be standard while an all-wheel drive system will be offered with certain engine combinations. The only drawback we see with 2016 Dodge Dakota is that a V6 would have made a big difference but it will most likely not be offered due to the fact it will be designed in Europe.
